Buy 100 shares. Sell a call contract a little above the price of the stock. Subtract the price of the call from the stock price and buy a put at that price. If the stock goes down, you keep the premium from the call. The put provides downside protection but cuts into profits. The opposite trade is to sell a 100 shares, then buy a call at the market price. Then sell a put at a lower price. All the options expire on the same day.
